Good room acoustics facilitates speech communication. A newly published review on the effect of reverberation time by Anders Kjellberg, Professor at the University of Gavle in Sweden, emphasises the long term effects of poor room acoustics.

Pioneer Norwegian standard on acoustic classification revised

Norwegian Standard NS 8175 ”Acoustic conditions in Buildings – sound classification of various types of buildings”, was originally published in 1997 (TK97). The revised version of NS 8175 was published in April this year.

When published 1997, NS 8175 was one of the first standards proposing target values for various parameters in buildings. NS 8175 is published by the Norwegian Standards Association.

American Standard on classroom acoustics now available online free of charge

Known as ANSI S12.60-2002 American National Standard Acoustical Performance Criteria, Design Requirements, and Guidelines for Schools, this standard provides helpful guidance to design professionals, educational facilities planners, and the general public, as well.

The standard is a tool in designing classrooms from an acoustic point of view and thereby paves the way for a better learning environment. The Standard is available through the ASA Standards Store at http://asastore.aip.org. Users will be asked to establish a username and password and accept the End User License before downloading the standard.
