Saint-Gobain Ecophon is organising its 6th Ecophon International Acousticians´ Seminar in Sweden (September 21-22) and a great variety of speakers from many different countries will communicate the latest knowledge connected to room acoustics.

EIAS 2011 is a seminar/conference focusing on room acoustics and the effect of sound on people. Most speakers and participants are acousticians or other professionals working with different aspects of sound and acoustics

ICU staff become more relaxed
- also better for patients and relatives

"Staff really cool down in here. The different light, the muffled sound and the nice colors in the room affect everyone who stays here", says ICU nurse Ann-Louise Smith.
Ann-Louise works as ICU nurse at at Södra Älvborgs Hospital, where one of the ICU rooms is especially designed to create a better environment for both patients, relatives and staff.

EU classroom acoustic research
- well received at ASA conference USA

Drs. Marcus Oberdorster and Gerhart Tiesler from Germany were invited to speak at the latest Acoustical Society of America conference in the US.
Their combined research explored "acoustic ergonomics in schools" monitoring classroom acoustic conditions and activities and implications of classroom acoustics on teacher workload and stress.

Acoustic Design of open-plan offices
- technical report available online

The technical report entitled "Acoustic design of open-plan offices" from the Nordic Innovation Centre is now available online. The report proposes measurement procedures of the spatial decay parameters DL2 and DLf, which in turn can be converted to a single parameter called distance of comfort.

New Line Learning Academy
- far removed from traditional designs

Ecophon organised a case study visit to the recently opened New Line Learning Academy. Far removed from the traditional designs often seen in the UK’s school estate, NLL is 9,463 sqm (GIA), and is designed to accommodate 1110 pupils. The concept for the building was provided by forward thinking educationalist and current Head Teacher, Guy Hewitt.

Open-plan session - Forum Acusticum
- Erling Nilsson assesses the session

This open-plan session included four papers on offices, evaluating acoustics and measures relating to sound propagation in particular and measures related to sound distribution curves; DL2, DLf & LpA,S,4m. Also the effect of screen heights, workplace locations and background and masking noise was investigated.The final paper was a field investigation of an open-plan school in Iceland.

Danish Study into office layouts
- highlights challenges when shared or open-plan

The study analysis is based on a national survey of Danish inhabitants aged between 18–59 years which involves more than 2400 office workers and claims that sickness absence increases when workers are sharing offices and in open-plan spaces.
