Forum Acousticum/Euronoise 2025: Let’s talk acoustics, research & real-world impact

2025-06-16 by Magda Szubert

Let's meet at Forum Acousticum Euronoise 2025

From 23–26 June 2025, the acoustics world will gather under the Andalusian sun for Forum Acousticum / Euronoise 2025, hosted in the vibrant coastal city of Málaga, Spain. This joint congress is one of the year’s most significant events for anyone passionate about sound—its science, its design, and its profound impact on people. We’re thrilled to share that the Acoustic Bulletin editorial team will be there in person. We invite all professionals, researchers, and enthusiasts to stop by for a conversation—whether you’re into psychoacoustics, room acoustics, soundscapes, or just curious about how sound affects human health, learning, work, and recovery.

A week where sound takes center stage

Forum Acousticum / Euronoise 2025 runs from 23–26 June 2025 at the FYCMA Congress Centre in Málaga, Spain. It’s the joint 11th EAA Annual Conference on Acoustics & Noise Control Engineering and the XLVI Spanish Acoustic Conference (TECNIACUSTICA).

  • The programme includes plenary keynote lectures, over 50 structured technical sessions, poster presentations, and a technology exhibition
  • Topics span building acoustics, environmental noise, physiological acoustics, virtual acoustics, machine learning in acoustics, and more
  • Ahead of the conference, the EAA Summer School (20–22 June) offers emerging-topic workshops for students and early-career researchers
  • Attendees can also enjoy a social programme featuring concerts, a jam session, local tours, and networking events .

The Acoustic Bulletin editorial team will be there, actively participating in sessions and informal discussions, we will be also available at booth 26. We’re excited to share ideas and hear yours, especially on how acoustics supports health, learning, concentration, and comfort in different built environments.

Join us for research talks

As part of the program, several papers will be presented by our network of experts and contributors. Here’s a preview of where to find us:

1. Looking at Sound Together: Using VR with Dutch Hospitals – A Case Study

Cees van Wezel
Session: A15.05 Acoustic Comfort in Hospitals
Time & Location: Monday 23rd June, 14:20, Room SC2-2 – KIRCHER in session A15.05 Acoustic Comfort in Hospitals. Organizers: S. Secchi and J. Negreira.

How can we design hospital soundscapes that actually support healing and staff performance? This study explores how Virtual Reality can be used to simulate and evaluate acoustic environments in healthcare—offering both diagnostic and design value. The findings show VR’s potential in guiding healthcare acoustics toward more immersive, patient-centered outcomes.

Note: VR headsets will be available for testing at Booth 26, offering immersive experiences of office, healthcare, and education environments—both with and without acoustic treatment. Come by and see (and hear) the difference!

2. Enhancing Acoustic Design in Open-Plan Offices: Practical Applications of the Simplified ISO 3382-3 Prediction Model

Rainer Machner, Holger Brokmann, Achim Klein
Session: A15.03 Modern Offices: Challenges and Solutions
Time & Location: Tuesday 24th June, 12:00, Room SC2-2; in session A15.03 Modern Offices: Challenges and Solutions. Organizer: V.Hongisto, D. D’Orazio.

In this paper, the authors apply a simplified ISO 3382-3 prediction model—originally developed by Hongisto and Keränen—in real office projects. The method allows fast, reliable assessment of acoustic quality without extensive simulations. Real-world use cases demonstrate how changes in materials and layouts translate directly into better acoustic comfort, productivity, and well-being.

3. Case Study: Remodelling of Open Plan Dutch School – Acoustic Design and Operational Challenges

Bianca Scherpenhuyzen, Colin Campbell
Session: A15.06 Acoustic and Multidomain Comfort in Learning Spaces
Time & Location: Tuesday 24th June, 16:40, Room SMG in session A15.06 Acoustic and multidomain comfort in learning spaces. Organisers: C. Visentin and G. Puglisi.

This school renovation case tackles the acoustic challenges of an open-plan primary school in the Netherlands. The team used both subjective feedback and measurement data to assess issues and guide the redesign. The results advocate for activity-based acoustic design, emphasizing that conventional standards don’t always reflect the needs of modern educational environments.

Come say Hello

If you’re attending Euronoise 2025, come find the Acoustic Bulletin editors at booth 26, sessions, coffee areas, or at our informal meet-ups throughout the week. We’re eager to connect with fellow acousticians, researchers, and designers to exchange knowledge, explore collaborations, or just talk about why good acoustics matters.

Stop by booth 26 to experience our VR headsets and explore immersive office, healthcare, and education environments—both with and without acoustic treatment.

Let’s keep raising the standard for how acoustics are understood, designed, and experienced—across sectors, countries, and disciplines.

See you in Málaga!
